Hard to believe that it’s now been five years since my second implant was activated, and seven since the first one. I haven’t been posting because things have been stable for a while now as far as my hearing is concerned.
My processors just went out of warranty, but thankfully they still seem to be working fine. I’ve had an occasional problem over the years: once a T-Mic broke (I have spares so I just swapped in another one), and another time the sound started cutting off for a second or two before resuming. That one turned out to be the headpiece; I have a couple of others so I tried one of them and the problem stopped, and AB replaced it (this was when it was still under warranty).
But anyway, for the most part I’m just living a reasonably normal life, or at least what has become a new normal for me. I still miss the occasional word or sentence in conversations, especially when there’s a lot of background noise. There’s not much to be done about that. I still use captions for TV and movies, although I don’t have to rely on them most of the time; they’re just for that occasional thing I miss. When I go to theaters, I bring my Roger On and plug it into their assisted-listening devices to stream the sound directly to my processors because it sounds so much clearer that way. And sometimes if someone tries to call or talk to me from behind, I miss it, especially if there’s other ambient sound (like I’m outside), because my microphones face forward. These are just things that I’ve learned to live with.
Had my annual mapping appointment today, and nothing really changed — like I said, things have been stable. Here’s my latest audiogram:

Don’t know if or when I might update again; probably not unless something major changes. I’m just out here living my life.
